We were immensely proud to be a sponsor of the much-anticipated show by eco-pioneers Vin+Omi, which opened London Fashion Week on Thursday 14th February at the Andaz Hotel in Liverpool Street.
Vin + Omi have been making headlines due to their radical approach to sustainable fabrics, views on climate change and new ways of developing eco fashion, and their Autumn Winter show was as ground-breaking, cutting-edge and inspiring as ever. The designers had worked with over 22 clean-up projects across the UK including the National Trust, British Canoeing and Surfers Against Sewage, collecting plastics from rivers including the Thames, Severn and Ouse which was then transformed into Vin + Omi’s signature rPET fabric to be used across the majority of the collection.
Other imaginative uses of upcycling included the creation of metallic flowers from recycled tin cans, a fabric made from linen, nettle and cow parsley which was woven into textiles by participants from a back to work scheme and upcycling of shoes from landfill which were then stained using products by art sponsor Daler Rowney.
Entitled Planet Rewind, the show was an exuberant and powerful statement on eco fashion, with a series of catwalks set up in the majestic ballroom and through the foyer of the grand Andaz Hotel, where artists worked live on a series if paintings in the centre of the space.
Supermodel Jodie Kidd opened and closed the show (see cover photo) – her first London Fashion Week appearance in 15 years - and was joined by eco-conscious celebrities including Jo and Leah wood and a legion of striking male and female models showing the futuristic, avant-garde and anarchic designs of the Autumn Winter collection – and it was hard to believe that the luxurious, tactile fabrics were all eco, recycled and thoughtfully fabricated.
Vin+Omi are undeniably fashion forward in every sense, their designs as radical as their visionary eco approach, and a riot of colours, textures and shapes which challenge the notion of the norm. We were excited to be present and thrilled to be included in the goodie bags for this truly important show and we’d like to go on the record to say we are right behind Planet Rewind!
