Our materials

Each bifold wallet is crafted from high-quality, next-generation plant leather. The material features a base layer derived from non-food grade corn.

This cutting-edge material incorporates over 30% plant content from renewable, carbon-neutral corn. A protective layer of PU on the surface adds water, stain, and scratch resistance. This leather alternative proves 3x more environmentally friendly than traditional animal leather.

Inside, we line each wallet with 100% post-consumer recycled plastic bottles. This fabric is soft and robust, much like polyester. However, unlike virgin polyester, recycled PET fabric drastically reduces environmental impact. It consumes 94% less water, 60% less energy, and produces 32% less CO2 during manufacture.

Which wallet is best, bifold or trifold?

When comparing a bifold with a trifold, it comes down to capacity and storage. Typically, a trifold wallet has more capacity than a slim and minimalist bifold wallet style.

Bifolds undoubtedly lead in popularity, yet you should consider a trifold wallet if you carry many cards.

Trifold definitely offer more space for cards but while its shape fits a front pocket, it can become bulky.

Both wallet styles allow you to carry notes without folding them.

What is a bifold wallet?

Bifold wallets have two sections and fold once, which explains their name. They are the most commonly used wallet style because they provide the versatility to carry cards and cash in a lightweight and slim design.

If you prefer a slim wallet and carry cash and cards, a bilfold could be your perfect companion.

Are bifolds slim?

We understand that the aesthetic of your wallet is as important as its function. Our materials are intentionally strong and lightweight, so we can craft slim, sleek, and professional wallets. Slim, compact wallets reduce the bulge in your shirt and trouser pockets while ensuring you can carry all your essential cards and cash.

When was the bifold wallet invented?

Accessories for carrying important items, such as currency, date back to ancient times. Up until the introduction of paper currency in the 1600s, people carried coins in a drawstring pouch.

Paper currency prompted the design of the first bifold wallet. In 1690, the simple fol+ding design would have had a pocket for ID and the capacity for paper notes and bills.

During the 1950s, the introduction of plastic payment cards led to changes that improved the capacity and performance. This transformation resulted in the style we recognise today; a symmetrical design with equal card pockets on each side.

Designs continue to change as our use of coins, paper currency, cards, and mobile payments evolves. That said, we still expect the iconic bifold wallet to transcend change and be with us forever.

The most popular wallet style in the world

This faithful design is the most traditional and well-known. The bifold is the style of choice for a great number of people, making it the most popular style of wallet in the world.

In some regions of the world, what many people know as a "bifold" wallet is often called a "billfold. This name emphasises its function for holding bills (banknotes), though they also accommodate cards and other items.

When choosing a bifold these are the key things to look for:

1. Make sure it is slim and lightweight. Once you add cards and cash the wallet should not be bulky.

2. RFID. This is pretty much a prerequisite these days, so make sure you don't have to pay extra for it.

3. When your new wallet arrives, don't transfer everything from your old wallet. Be honest about what you use and take the opportunity to carry less. This will help reduce wear and tear on your new wallet and keep it looking great for much longer.

Personalised bifold wallets

A personalised wallet is one of the best gifts you can give. A wallet transcends age and interests and being able to add that final bespoke touch of personalisation is the last stage in creating a truly memorable gift.

All our wallets can be personalised, and the embossed initials are added to the front, bottom right-hand corner.
